Trusted. Servant. Leader.
A WORD FROM ERNIE
I am grateful and honored to be involved in the exciting progress the Board of Commissioners is making. We have been very productive in accomplishing important initiatives in an efficient manner. I am mindful of our responsibility as a Board to deliver results to our community. I believe we’re successful in doing this because this Board operates in a way that the citizens of Greene County can be proud of. The attitude taken by the Board has consistently had a positive effect on goals for the county. Our efforts have always aimed to bring a sense of bipartisanship and civil discourse to the Board. We strive to take politics out of our planning and decision-making processes. The Greene County Board of Commissioners operates under a "county first, district second" motto and is results-driven and aware of the needs of the county as a whole.
Priorities
Public Safety
Greene County has begun the rollout of a new public safety strategy that combines the county Fire/EMS/E-911/animal control services into one department. This new department will be under the direction of the county's new Public Safety Director. The county's first step will be to pay off the $800,000 of debt accumulated by the Old Salem Fire Rescue and then bring it under county direction. By doing this along with reducing duplication and using the county's leverage, Greene County will save over $200,000 annually. The new Public Safety Department will be fully staffed by Greene County residents.
Stewardship
The top priority of Ernie during his next term will be to support the county’s growth by improving county services without raising taxes. The Board of Commissioners is currently working to bring the Recreation Department and Airport under county management. This will save taxpayers $100,000 annually. Ernie will work hard to continue improving county services without incurring debt. Currently, Greene County has no debt and the highest possible bond rating achievable for counties of its size.
